Our Self-Centering Drill Press Vise and Pen Press are an ideal combination to help make your pen turning efforts more accurate and effective. The vise's 3''-tall V-notched jaws and ingenious self-centering mechanism grip pen blanks or other workpieces vertically, so you can drill perfectly plumb holes through them before installing them on the lathe. Once blanks are turned to shape, the Pen Press' fine threads and rigid, linear action make it easy to keep the components in perfect alignment when pressing them together. It works much like a miniature bar clamp, with a quick-action clutch and feet that provide a stable, compact footprint.
Rockler Self-Centering Drill Press Vise Details:
- Center it under the chuck of your drill press for drilling perfectly plumb, centered holes in pen blanks and other turning blanks that require hardware
- Self-centering mechanism closes jaws simultaneously around workpiece without the wobble, slop or backlash common in similar vises
- Larger capacity than many similar vises: jaw opening accommodates round blanks up to 2-5/8'' in diameter
- V-notches accept square workpieces up to 2-1/8'' wide x 2-1/8'' wide (approximately 3'' on the diagonal)
- Rotating clamp handle is designed to provide comfortable leverage without scraping your knuckles
- Large clamp zones make it easy to secure to your drill press' stock table, while holes in base allow mounting to a piece of plywood
- Mounting holes also line up with T-track in Rockler Drill Press Table and Fence (#57484, sold separately) and are sized to fit 5/16''-18 T-bolts (sold separately)
- Included 1/4'' thick x 1'' wide x 3'' long MDF insert provides zero-clearance support to help prevent blowout and can be replaced easily
