How to Make a Custom Kitchen Knife Handle

Rockler offers more than fifteen knife kits, the new set of kitchen knives seen here. The knives in this set (pictured above , each knife sold separately) include a Chef's Knife, Sontoku Knife, Paring Knife, and Filet Knife. All of these knife kits are machined from top-quality AUS-10 Japanese stainless steel, and hardened to HRC 57-59. You get to choose the handle material, then attach and shape the handle.
You can choose from Rockler's many wood and acrylic knife scales (the two pieces that make the handle), or make your own handle blanks. Making knife handles is also a great project for beginning woodworkers because it doesn’t require a shop full of tools. All you need is a saw to cut the handle shape, a drill/driver to bore the pin holes, and a sander or file to finish shaping and smoothing the handle.
A custom kitchen knife or a complete set of knives is a great gift idea. You can make something you know the recipient will love, and you know they will use it because everyone needs kitchen knives.
