Best Festool Sandpapers and Abrasive Pads for Woodworking

Granat - 40 to 1,500 Grit

Festool Granat abrasives are best for all around use, including most woodworking applications. It is Festool's longest-lasting and highest performing abrasive. Thanks to the special coating, clogging is avoided to help deliver a long service life. Thanks to the MULTI-JETSTREAM 2 system and the 49-hole extraction, work can be performed with especially little dust. This protects the surface to be processed and human health. and is well suited for nearly all applications, including bare wood, paints, most modern paint systems, VOC clear coats, plastic materials, solid surface materials, acrylics, and composites.

Rubin 2 - 40 to 220 grit

If you will only be sanding wood materials, then FESTOOL Rubin 2 sandpaper is specially developed for wood materials, including hardwoods, soft woods, tropical woods, and other wood-based products. It features a special coating which sheds wood fibers. It can wear a bit faster than Granat, but many report it delivers an outstanding final surface.

Granat Net - 80 to 400 grit

FESTOOL Granat Net is a mesh abrasive disc. It is the perfect solution for sanding materials that produce a large amount of dust, such as drywall compound or primed surfaces. The open mesh structure allows for increased dust extraction across the entire surface — for working cleanly, a high material removal capacity, and a long service life of the abrasive.

Vlies - 80 - 800 grit

FESTOOL Vlies (pronounced fleece) is an abrasive pad, excellent for light sanding between applying coats of finish or knocking the sheen down on a glossy finish. The Vlies pads are also perfect for cleaning and de-rusting metal.

Best Festool Sandpapers for Other Applications

Saphir - 24 to 80 grit

Festool Saphir abrasives are available in coarse grits for especially heavy-duty applications, such as removing paint from metal. The durable aluminum oxide abrasive features a tear-resistant fabric backing for extended service life in extreme applications.

Platin 2 - 400 to 2000 grit

FESTOOL Rubin 2 sandpaper are foam-backed, silicone carbide sandpaper discs that feature a stearate coating specially developed for high-gloss finishes on closed surface materials. Platin 2 discs are primarily used for polishing and auto body paint preparation.
