Beli is prized for its contrasting striped grain, which is most pronounced in quartersawn sections. The alternating grain has echoes of Zebrawood and Black and White Ebony, but has less contrast overall. Beli's texture is medium to coarse, with moderate natural luster. It is easy to work with hand and machine tools, though it can be unstable, with high movement. The wood also reacts with ferrous metals, meaning that prolonged contact with iron can cause stains.
